Wine List




Our wines are supplied by le Caveau wine merchants in Kilkenny. They source their wines from independent, artisan winegrowers who are working their land with passion and respect for the environment. They believe that hard work in the vineyards results in healthy, delicious fruit which in turn, require very little intervention in the winery. Their wines are articulate, with pure fruit expression and true to their origins.

White Wines

2011 Benovie, Champs de l’Hort Chardonnay (house wine) 23.50 (bottle), 5.95 (glass)
Lovely nose – pungent and flowery with hints of lemon. The palate is fresh and fruity and shows amazing intensity with green apple, honeyed notes, nuts and dried fruit.
2013 Bodegas Menade, Rueda ‘Verdejo’ (Rueda, Spain) - organic 28.50
Harvested at night to preserve maximum freshness, the organically grown Verdejo grapes are packed with natural flavours and complexity. The wine is dry, light-bodied and crisp with citrus, grapefruit, lime and aniseed character, lovely depth and perfect balance.
2011 Entre-Deux-Mers, Château Turcaud Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon (Bordeaux, France) 27.50
Very classy wine, vividly fresh with appealing Sauvignon character. Lively orange, pineapple and floral – rose, jacinth – flavours on the nose are followed by notes of grapefruit and lime on the palate.
2011 Verdicchio di Matelica, Colle Stefano (Marche, Italy) 30.00
This is a wine that is arresting in its intensity, minerality and structure. Aromas of grass, lime, white flowers lead through onto the palate where the refreshing acidity is balanced by the intensity and depth of fruit.
2011 Pinot Grigio ‘Trefili’, San Marziano (Veneto, Italy) 24.50
Soft, fruit dominated Pinot Grigio, with a lovely orchard fruit perfume. Light, vibrant with fresh, zesty, citrus character.
2010 Sauvignon Blanc ‘282’, Elgin Ridge (Elgin Valley, South Africa) 35.50
New World meets the Loire with these enticing citrus aromas, gooseberries, grapefruit and minerals on the nose. Refreshingly crisp on the palate, with elegant vegetal and citrusy flavours and mineral notes. Clean and pleasantly tart on the finish, making this a great food wine.
2011 Muscadet sur Lie Château Coing-Saint Fiacre (Loire, France) 28.50
This is a real favourite of ours, with its bright, expressive nose of quince, peach, apple and buttery hints. The palate is crisp and lively with ripe fruit and flowery character, ending with sea scents, minerals and citrus notes; a standard-bearer for quality Muscadet.
2010 Chablis, Gérard Tremblay (Burgundy, France) 40.00
Very mineral, yet not aggressive with trademark green and red apple and oyster-shell aromas. The palate is whistle-fresh with lime, apple and more minerals showing. The overall impression is of a perfectly balanced, fleshy and ripe wine.
2012 Saint-Aubin 1er Cru ‘Murgers des dents de Chien’, Domaine Larue (Burgundy, France) 49.50
A very cool and elegant style of St-Aubin, from one of its most respected producer. The vineyard is located just around the corner from Chevalier Montrachet Grand Cru, between Puligny and Chassagne. This is long and lovely on the palate, with interesting minerality and pretty notes of white flowers on the nose

Red Wines

2011 Benovie, Roc Rouge Merlot (house wine) 23.50 (bottle), 5.95 (glass)
Roc Rouge has a powerful and surprisingly intense nose of plum, stewed black fruit and cherry. Intensely flavoured with ripe fruit, plum and some spicy, vegetal notes.
2010 Cabernet Sauvignon, Nordoc – Pays d’Oc (Languedoc, France) 25.00
The nose is rich and intense, gorgeous ripe black berries, plum, cassis with hints of vanilla and toast. More ripe black berries are found on the palate, with lovely sweetness and juiciness, ending with wild herbs hints and finely grained tannins.
2010 Carmenère ‘El Grano’, Denis Duveau (Curico Valley, Chile) 26.00
The El Grano is made from grapes grown at 450m. The vines are ploughed; no weed killers are required, and because of the exceptional climate, no chemicals are needed either. This is a terroirdriven wine with real character, the nose expresses greenery in abundance: capsicum, green bean and mint pea and there is a satisfying, highly digestible, savoury bitterness in the mouth.
2012 Montepulciano d’Abruzzo ‘Bio’, Cantine Tollo (Abruzzo, Italy) 27.50
Hand harvested and neither fined nor filtered this wine is bursting with primary red fruit and gamey notes. Ruby red in colour with violet tinges. The fragrance recalls small red fruit, with hints of liquorice and violet. The flavour is full and well-structured, with mild, well-integrated tannins.
2010 Tempranillo ‘Gran Cerdo’, Gonzalo Gonzalo Grijalba (Rioja, Spain) 26.00
This lovely wine is all about the purest expression of fruit with whole bunch fermentation, no filtration, no stabilization and minimal sulphites. The wine has real character, all the juicy elements of Tempranillo, with no oak to mask its charm. With its cherry-red, purplish, brilliant colour, Gran Cerdo reveals primary notes of fresh fruit, strawberries, raspberries, cherries and violets with clean mineral tones.
2011 Rioja Crianza, Hacienda Grimon (Rioja, Spain) 33.00
85% Tempranillo with 10% Garnacha and 5% Graciano. After a rigorous selection of grapes from 3 different vineyard parcels, a gentle extraction, the wine is aged for 14 months in French & American oak. Aromas of black fruits with black pepper and sweet spices, followed by a full-bodied and full-on flavoured palate. The ripe tannins and natural freshness balance the richness of the fruit which results in an elegant and classy Rioja.
2012 Crozes-Hermitage, Domaine Ville-Rouge (Rhône, France) - organic 35.50
A cuvée made from the estates younger vines. A creamy, juicy nose of plum and spice and just a suggestion of the typical Crozes ‘bacon fat’ character. Light bodied, fresh acidity, savoury, with soft tannins. An approachable style to be drunk young while ‘on the fruit’.
2012 Barbera d’Alba ‘Fisetta’, Ciabot-Berton (Piedmont, Italy) 36.00
The aim of Ciabot-Berton is to produce wines that express their vineyard terroir, unique in each vintage and with the stamp of the family’s way of working (following organic principles). The wine is produced from a 0.6 hectare plot. Very pure, rich and dense nose showing wild red berries notes. Dry, medium bodied with a silky texture and an almost Pinot Noir character and elegance.
2011 Saint-Emilion Grand Cru, Château Carteau (Bordeaux, France) 49.50
Deep rubis colour, the nose is elegant with notes of dark fruit, toasted bread and liquorice. Unctuous and smooth on the palate, with good aromatic freshness, blackberry, cherry and cassis mingle with toast and smokey hints. Overall the wine is superbly structured and balanced, neither looking for over-ripeness nor adding lashings of oak, this is confident and sure-footed winemaking at its very best.

Rosé and Chilled Red Wines

2010 Touraine Gamay rosé ‘Sonnemot’, Guy Allion (Loire, France) 25.50
Pale-pink coloured wine made from low-yielding Gamay. The nose is enticing with fresh, lively notes of citrus fruit, red berries and floral hints. It is vividly fresh on the palate, medium-bodied with raspberry flavours mingling with grapey and citrus notes.
2010 Pinot Noir‘La Boussolle’, StéphaneVedeau – Pays d’Oc (Languedoc, France) 25.50
Grown on the hills surrounding Limoux, this Pinot Noir has ripe wild strawberry, cherry, mint and sous-bois scents on the nose and these flavours are also found on its bright, fresh and vibrant palate. This is a medium-bodied wine that would be excellent served with lighter dishes including fleshy fish dishes.

Sparklings

Prosecco Frizzante NV, Rive della Chiesa 27.00
This Frizzante has a brilliant, light straw-yellow colour, with a persistent froth and extra-fine bubbles. Enticing flavours, characteristically fruity with hints of golden apple and peach. Slightly off-dry, it is an excellent aperitif, also very suitable with various hors d'oeuvres and lean dishes, seafood, bisques and delicate soups as well as with desserts.
Champagne Gobillard 1er Cru Brut Reserve NV 72.50
Made of a third each of Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay grown on premier cru vineyards. Aged for three years (more than double the minimum requirement of 15 months) in the cellar before release, this superb Champagne has a delicate, elegant raspberry-scented nose. Lovely, soft texture with summer fruits, brioche and a creamy edge; mineral notes and citrus fruit are found on its fresh, bright, zippy ending

Dessert Wine

Muscat de Rivesaltes, Pétri-Géraud Muscat (Roussillon, France) 5.95 (glass)
The nose is quintessential sweet Muscat, with aromatic, floral and grapey notes alongside exotic fruit. Rich, luscious, ripe texture coats the palate with wonderful tropical fruit, grapefruit and floral character. The ending is clean and fresh, thanks to a zippy acidity
